July - Lazy summer days filled with Lavender

Lavender has been used for more than 2,500 years by many different cultures as a perfume, a cure for different ailments and even part of the mummification process. It also discourages moths so you can put a pouch in your cupboard and replace that mothball smell with something much nicer!

In Ancient Greece it was called “nardes”, “nard” or “spikenard”, named after the Syrian city of Naarda. It was used for everything from insomnia and aching backs to curing insanity.

The Egyptians anointed their heads, but Greek philosopher Diogenes anointed his feet, claiming, “When you anoint your head with perfume, it flies away in the air and birds only get the benefit of it, whilst if I rub it on my lower limbs it envelopes my whole body and gratefully ascends to my nose.”

Which is why we offer our guests a small pouch of lavender so that you may take a little piece of Greek summer home with you and remember your stay with us forever.
